On January 15, 2024, at approximately 5:50 p.m., UTPD was dispatched to Dobie 21 in reference to a fire alarm. Upon arrival, officers discovered that there was no fire and instead, a broken water line which caused flooding on the 3rd floor and floors below. The building was evacuated and the Austin Fire Department (AFD) responded to the scene. UT Housing and Dining and the UT Fire Marshals were contacted.
Student were temporarily housed in the Dobie 21 gym and the Target/food court area while facilities cleaned up the damage. Notification was sent out when UT Fire Marshals stated the building was safe for students to re-enter. The domestic water line was still in service and there was no other damage or injuries reported.
